The Door to the Sun encompasses 50 searing years of history with magnificent stubbornness and intimacy. Years of turmoil and violence of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict provide the backdrop for the more personal stories of Dr Khalil and Younes. On the run from the police, Dr Kalil hides in Younes' hospital room. The two men are previously acquainted. Dr Kalil tries to awaken the comatose Younes by recounting stories from his friend's own past. Nasrallah's approach is infused with a deep humanism and with unexpected humour in the unlikeliest of places. The film is based on the award-winning novel by the distinguished Lebanese writer Elias Khoury. The novel’s historical and literary narrative is rendered as a spectacle of sounds and colours, bringing to life the villages of Galilee with all their folklore.
