Ranjan Palit, a renowned documentary cinematographer raises the subject of looking at and documenting emotions in situations where there is only a fraction of a second to render an image. The meaning in the image is not implicit but a synthesis of this very look and the content of the frame. In his words, “After 25 years of shooting the documentary, I feel the need to start from scratch, to re-examine the way one approaches a scene, a character, to try and analyze my own intuition and understand what guides my perceptions when I am setting up the camera – what is going on in my head when I look through the lens.”
